About

A peace is of the nature of a conquest; for then both parties nobly are subdued, and neither party loser.

Common ground.

Un

common resolutions.

I started Common Ground Resolutions to provide a unique framework for resolution of litigation and other disputes. I focus on mediating litigated cases, but I also provide a range of private adjudication services, including settling pre-litigation disputes, mediating contract negotiation, business dissolutions or disputes, arbitrations or references, and temporary judgeships by stipulation.

I have over 45 years’ experience in complex civil litigation as a lawyer and judge, conducting and presiding over hundreds of jury trials, including major injury cases and complex business disputes. I believe that all disputes—no matter how complex or intense—are resolvable short of litigation or trial.

We have multiple conference rooms available for breakout sessions, a small private hearing setting, and can also provide for virtual appearances. We desire
an environment where parties and attorneys feel that they are receiving the same consideration they would get in court from a judge. In addition to mediation, arbitration, and references, we offer and encourage temporary judgeships (by stipulated court order under Rules of Court) for a constitutional resolution (preserving rights of appeal, if desired), and where settlements may be placed immediately “on the record.”

Litigants are now facing an overwhelming backlog of civil cases in our courts, making it increasingly unmanageable to achieve timely and cost-effective resolution of disputes. Common Ground Resolutions is a substantial resource to achieve prompt, fair, and reasonable dispositions.

WE HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER OUR SERVICES.

Judge (Retired)

Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser—in fees, expenses, and waste of time.
